Jasmine

Jasmine was a Baltimore woman who met Marcus “MJ” Henderson Jr. while both were patients in the adolescent psychiatric unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital in June 2019. Their relationship developed through shared experience with mental illness and reciprocal support. By September 2025, they were engaged and shared a Baltimore apartment with their cat, Chester.

Health and Disabilities

Jasmine had a history of mental-health crisis, psychiatric hospitalization, and self-harm. Her specific diagnosis was not established. Documented effects included medication-related nausea, dissociative episodes, and panic attacks.

Jasmine survived a suicide attempt at sixteen. She later met Marcus while both were receiving adolescent inpatient psychiatric care in June 2019.

Jasmine and Marcus supported one another during periods of illness and dysregulation. Marcus stayed with her through medication side effects, dissociation, and panic; Jasmine learned to recognize changes in his posture, focus, and speech when he became overwhelmed.

Work and Family

Jasmine worked at a community center. Her family included a brother who served in the United States Navy and was deployed during the mid-2020s.

Personality and Communication

Jasmine communicated directly and used dark humor when she and Marcus first met. As their relationship developed, she used short observations and specific choices when Marcus had difficulty finding words. She rejected descriptions of his access needs as neediness and emphasized the support he provided her in return.

Physical Characteristics

Jasmine had purple hair and visible scars on her arms when she met Marcus in 2019.
